Vitali Klitschko retains title, but Dereck Chisora brawl with David Haye steals show

Boxing News

The talk of the heavyweight division this morning should be about how Vitali Klitschko won a lopsided decision over a game but overmatched Dereck Chisora. That is not the case. In a strange way Chisora has managed to do something that has not been done in a long time in the heavyweight division and that is create interest. It all started at the press conference when Chisora slapped Vitali in the face. When it came down to fight, Chisora refused to fight because the Klitschko camp did not like the way his hands were wrapped. Finally the fighters came out to the ring and once Vitali got in the ring Chisora had to be separated from Vitali, only for Chisora to spit water in the face of Wladimir. The fight for the most part had Chisora as the aggressor, but Vitali countered with a right hand that found its mark throughout the fight. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Chisora has to be commended for bringing the fight to Vitali but his inexperience showed at times. After the fight at the post fight press conference Haye was challenging Vitali when Chisora responded with “how is your toe” repeatedly. Haye responded with “I never knew a heavyweight that gets a title shot for losing three fights in a row.” The manager of Vitali responded with “at least Chisora comes to fight and does not make excuses.”  Chisora than told Haye “I dare you to say it to my face, better yet I will say it to your face.” The two men would start throwing punches and Chisora claims to have been hit with a bottle.

Pictures have shown that Haye threw a punch with a bottle in his hand. Haye would also brawl with Chisora trainer Don Charles. Adam Boothe. the trainer of Haye, has a huge gash on his head. Many people speculated that Chisora threw a bottle and it hit Boothe. Chisora threatens to shoot or burn Haye if he does not accept a fight with him.

All this chaos and amidst all of it you have a great buildup of a showdown with David Haye and Dereck Chisora. This will easily sell as a fight anywhere but the all-England matchup promises to be an explosive fight. Dereck Chisora was detained by Munich police for questioning this morning, while the police were unable to locate David Haye.  The manager of the Klitschko brothers assured Frank Warren that the winner of a bout between Chisora vs. Haye would get a shot at Vitali Klitschko.

One thing is for sure, say what you want about Chisora; he is a fighter unlike David Haye.  He brought the fight to the champion and his valiant efforts against Vitali did not go unnoticed. However his conduct is a cause for big concern as he caused so much controversy and chaos this weekend and has raised some concerns about his mental state of mind. Whatever happens to Chisora, at the end of the day the question remains is Dereck Chisora good for boxing?
