Let this be a lesson to anyone in the fight game. Never just assume your fighter is going to win. Josesito Lopez had a little something to say last night about the already set up Victor Ortiz Vs. Canelo Alvarez fight. You can ask the guy with the broken jaw about that. Lopez from the opening bell let the world know that he came to win, and that's exactly what he did.
Ortiz had some good rounds as well, it was a good scrap but in the end it would be Lopez with his arms raised. The two fighters went back and forth landing some big power shots. Ortiz resorted to some familiar dirty fighting again when he punched Lopez in the back of the head. The referee gave Lopez a few minutes to recover. Once he did, it was a war once again.
In the 9th round Lopez nailed Ortiz with a thunderous left hook. The punch would break Oritz' jaw and ultimately would end the fight. Ortiz decided not to answer the bell, which was the right thing to do.
The loss for Ortiz throws a wrench in the plans for a big payday fight Vs. Mexican star Canelo Alvarez. A new opponent will be announced shortly.
